Analysis of the Spatial Aliasing in the Compact Hydrophone Array

چکیده مقاله:
In this work, first, the relationship between operating frequencies, the distance between hydrophones in a compact array and, the location of the sound sources with the aliasing phenomenon is investigated and analyzed. Then, a proposed method is utilized to localize a harbor porpoise using the acoustic data from a 2019 underwater acoustic trial in Grand Passage, Nova Scotia, in Canada under the presence of noise and spatial aliasing. The used hydrophone array in this trial is a planar array with five elements. Forasmuch, a harbor porpoise emits the narrowband ultrasonic signals at high frequency and also, the operating frequencies bandwidth of array rely on the aperture of the array and number of hydrophones, So, at high frequency, the spatial aliasing creates some side-lobe in the beam pattern and decrease the performance of the array. The presented algorithm in this paper is a kind of a matched field processing (MFP) which it’s Green Function is constructed using an analytical image model with considering an estimator based on eigenvectors of the measured signal. The simulated results show that despite the relatively large distance between the elements of the hydrophone array, the proposed localizing method is well resistant to aliasing.
