Optimum Receiver Position in Multi-static Passive Radars

Multi-static passive radar systems, compare to the conventional ones, have benefited from spatial diversity in addition to undetectability.
Due to significant effect on the positioning accuracy,
designing the optimal sensor-target geometry has been considered
as an important problem in the localization literature.The
existing sensor placement methods mainly solve the problem in
the cases without any constraints on the sensors locations.
In passive radar systems, the transmitters available in the environment, such as FM radio, digital video broadcasting- terrestrial (DVB-T) signal and geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite, are utilized as illuminators of opportunity. The placement of these transmitters is not at our disposal and we only have accessed to the receiver placement. In this paper, knowing the location of transmitters, the optimal receiver position is obtained. The analysis is based on D-optimality criterion, i.e. maximizing the determinant of associated Fisher information matrix (FIM). Numerical simulations are included to verify the theoretical result.
